India’s Moment in the AI Era
Artificial Intelligence (AI) marks the next technological revolution, and India stands well-positioned to lead it. With its vast pool of engineers and IT professionals, the country has a natural advantage. Yet, brain drain remains a challenge, as nearly 15% of the world’s AI talent is of Indian origin but largely contributes abroad.
Rajat Khare, global investor and founder of Boundary Holding, stresses that reversing this migration is crucial. India has already built strong digital infrastructure and government-backed AI initiatives, but its strength lies in developing multilingual and culturally adaptive tools. With 22 recognized languages and countless dialects, India can design inclusive AI systems often overlooked by global players.
Still, weak research funding, limited academia-industry collaboration, and lower pay drive professionals overseas. To retain talent, India must invest in AI research centers, offer competitive salaries, support startups, and build global networks with its diaspora. Hosting the 2026 Global AI Summit could also strengthen India’s leadership role.
India’s multilingual edge makes AI not just a business opportunity but a tool for inclusion, bridging digital divides. With strategic investment and retention-focused policies, India can transform from a talent supplier into an AI superpower.
